WHAT IS BROWN SCREEN?

The "Trame Brune", an expression coined on the model of the Trame Verte et Bleue, is a concept that designates the continuity of surfaces left in open ground. Soil artificialisation is often an inevitable consequence of urban development. However, it is often possible to reduce it and minimize the isolation of preserved land areas, in particular by creating a brown grid.

WHY TAKE IT INTO ACCOUNT?

Although soil is fundamental to the proper functioning of any ecosystem and is non-renewable on a human scale, it is still all too often neglected. Soil has many varied and complementary roles:

  • Biodiversity: Safeguarding "invisible" biodiversity: it is estimated that more than a quarter of terrestrial species are found in soils.
  • Water cycle: rainwater infiltration, underground circulation, water availability for plants...
  • CO2 absorption and storage
  • Pollution control
